Small Group Training

At our meeting we went through some training around Small Group dynamics and how to approach them

Common Small Group Dynamics include:

• Circus: May have one or two young people engaged but majority are distracted, unengaged, talking, etc.
• The Hog: Takes up the conversation and just can't stop talking
• Pianissimo: Everyone is quiet and no one is talking
• Toddlers: Similar to Circus, but more focused on tangents

We brainstormed some strategies (look below) that can be used to reengage our small groups

Extra Notes

• Prep time is key! Hatch a plan of how you are going to engage in your small group with your co-leaders (who will lead the Q’s, what are the Q’s that will land well, do we need to follow up anything, etc)
• Understand and get to know your young peeps individually and as a group dynamic (what are their values/what they find important, are there extra needs, etc)
• Be open to teach/interact with your Small Group in different ways (Use Playdo, Writing/journaling, actions, etc)
• Aim of Small Group is not finish all the Q’s! It is to build their understanding of who Jesus is and connect with each other

Emerge Notes

• We identified the Strengths and Soft spots of Emerge

Strengths: - Heart posture of leaders for mission

• Reading young people well
• Bringing in apologetics
• Young people getting to know each other + building relationships well -Sticking to time

Soft Spots - Faith Convos (Actually doing them + Carrying them)

• Leader positioning (careful of grouping with other leaders, sign-in leaders out at door)

• Communication with each other (early communication) + how we talk to each other (Banter)

• Content + All-in-time in the Basement

• Introduction of segment around apologetic questions </aside>
